After doing this and examining this song I understand why he talks about horses and what a pagan is and why he used it. I also understand what he says in the song and the real lyrics. I believe that from this I have taken more than this is a song about the artist sexuality, but the reactions of others and how it affects the different people that are homosexual. I feel more confused about how I feel about the church and how they should reply to same-sex marriages and relationships. I have never really felt a clear thought about the situation, but I know that I will not have to make a decision about that topic because it doesn't affect me personally.

In my book, the conflict has been person versus nature. Mariam and Laila were both pulled away from their childhood, even though their childhoods the best, by death. I could never go through what these two young ladies have gone through, could you? Mariam lost her mother, and Laila lost her mother, father, and best friend. Mariam is a scared, young girl that Rasheed uses to his advantage. When Rasheed finds Laila, she is disconbobulated and will never be the same as she was before. I think she doesn't want to be the same because all the people she loved are gone.
EX) Mr. Kerr is a fat, hairy English teacher. (from the notes YOU {mr. kerr} gave us) "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is CRAAAZZYY!!! Mariam's transformation from being Nana's little girl, to not being wanted by anyone, and then to being married and miscarrying several times. I reacted in complete shock, I'm a fifteen year old girl and I know I would not be able to handle what Mariam went through in a matter of months. I think this book is very interesting, but it is a VERY mature book. It is eyeopening.
Stereotypes happen within school very often, the clubs you are part of "defines you". I am an athlete, so people think that I am dumb, I am in FFA so people think I'm country, I'm the principal's daughter so people think that I won't ever get in trouble or that I know everything. People say that because of my last name I made the JV and Varsity team for basketball. Stereotypes come from movies and how some characters act in those movies seem to portray a whole group of people. When in actuality I play sports and I am tied for second in freshman class rank. I'm in FFA because it is another reason for leadership opportunities, I made JV and Varsity for basketball because I earned it.
In the picture of Chin-kee it is representing the stereotypes of people that are from Asia. This stereotype is important because it is not true about all of them. My first impressions, well I'll admit it I was overwhelmed. The difference between Chin-kee and the main character of the book shows that Chin-kee is representing a stereotype and the main character is what the majority of people from that group act like. I am 15 years old, I live in Thomasboro, I was born in Urbana. My mom was from Gifford and my dad was from Thomasboro, they both went to Rantoul High School and were high school sweethearts. My dad went into the Army and my parents were married at 20 years old. They were stationed in New York, Kentucky, and then returned to Central Illinois. My grandma on my dad's side was also from Thomasboro. My great-grandma on my dad's side lived in Thomasboro. Her parents were from Germany, and she had 6 sisters and 7 brothers and they all lived in a two bedroom house in the country outside of Rantoul. That is about as far back as I can go back. I know all this from stories I have been told, and questions I have asked. I don't know the stuff I don't know because I haven't asked about the stuff that I don' t know.
During this writing I feel I have learned how to better format writing. I have learned how to format Shakespearean quotes correctly. I have also found that I can choose to write professionally when I need to. I feel that doing this writing assignment has made me a better writer overall. This assignment had just enough restrictions on it to give us flexibility to write our own assignments, and everyone not having the same exact paper. Good writing contains good grammar, formatting, and proper citations.
I liked "Romeo and Juliet" because of the story line, until the end. I do not like the end, I have never liked the end of the story. I believe it is a good end to the story just not a happy one. I do feel that by the end of the play I have developed better reading traits, and that it is easier to read than it was at the beginning. This is one of the most well known love stories ever, so there has to be some reason it is well known, I think the reason it is well known is because it is developed very well. I like this about the story. I just have never been able to get over the ending.
Most of the time I am a little bit confused. Shakespeare uses fancy words so the margin notes are really helpful. The explanations before the scenes are even more helpful, because they tell me exactly what I am supposed to know. The pictures are also helpful, sometimes not all the time. The difficulty I find in reading this book is reading the book. Romeo and Juliet is a classic tale we are told about, before we can read, that also helps.
The way people think and the reason and purpose of the genocide is an unthinkable form of insanity. I think that the reason history repeats itself is because even though people know about genocide, people also act as others in the past have. The things going through the heads of the leaders of these horrific events are some type of insane reality.
In Night a massive amount of deaths occurred and also in Hotel Rwanda. The Holocaust is one of the first most remembered genocides in history, and it repeated itself with the same form of attack--differences and fear of difference. In Night it was was Germans against other races and in Hotel Rwanda it was Hutu against Tutsi. The way of recruitment for this type of fight is brainwashing and sick. We can implant in ourselves that these events are something that should never happen, and we can try and help others make correct choices. These people that start these movements need to be punished but helped because of the thoughts going through their head. We can fight if these type of things ever do happen again, we should fight for these things never to happen again. |
